When You Need To Lose Weight

Category: Weight Loss — Author: Dave Owen

If you want to lose weight, you will soon be overwhelmed by the number of different weight loss packages available. You will find every type of advertisement being tossed at those who are looking to lose weight. These advertisers are hoping to make some money off of anyone desperate to lose weight. It is best to pick the package that safely allows you to slowly lose weight by burning more calories than you consume. For you to burn more calories than you consume, you should either decrease the caloric intake by not eating as much or by taking in healthier foods. Items that are lower in fat and sugar. Another way to burn more calories than you consume is to increase the energy you use each day by exercising more.

Do not fall into the trap of using fad or starvation diets as a weight reduction method. This is because you will only be hurting your body and any weight loss you achieve early on will be quickly regained when you go back to your normal eating pattern.

The U.S. Committee on Dietary Allowance suggests the proper number of calories for various age groups by sex, activity level and your health condition. Pregnancy has different suggestions for calorie intake. It is usually not a good idea to try to monitor your weight gain while you are pregnant.

You can ask your doctor for recommendations for safe weight loss tips to follow. These suggestions for reducing weight will take your individual health conditions into consideration.

Some Weight Reduction Tips:

Normally, a safe rule of thumb for weight loss is about one pound per week. Each pound contains approximately 3,500 calories. Therefore, you would need to consume 3,500 fewer calories in a week in order to reduce by one pound. If you turn to your math skills, you will find that reducing your daily intake by 500 calories per day, will achieve the goal. That is 500 calories for 7 days creates the 3,500 calorie reduction that you require. If your doctor approves of losing 2 pounds a week, you would have to decrease your daily calorie consumption by 1,000 calories. You can achieve this daily deficit by burning more calories by increasing your physical activity along with reducing the daily caloric intake. If you combine increased physical activity with a reduction in consumption, you should be able to lose weight without significantly depriving yourself of food.

Women should not go below 1,200 calories a day, unless directed by a doctor to do so. Men shouldn’t go below a daily calorie intake of 500 to 800 calories unless recommended by a doctor.

Part of losing weight is not gaining it so here are a few tips for preventing weight gain:

Avoid any food that is high in sugar or fat

Reduce the quantity of alcohol you consume if any

Avoid tedium, frustration or strain

If you feel yourself getting dejected seek medical help right away
