Resolving Sleep Problems In Baby
One of the joys of being a parent, is looking at a lovely sleeping contented baby. Plenty of uninterrupted sleep provides a really good base for your baby’s healthy future. A baby suffering from sleep problems can be a complete nightmare for parents. By putting a baby sleep routine in place, parents will be well on the way to getting their baby into a regular sleeping pattern, that is so essential in these early weeks.
Setting good bedtime habits for your baby, is a good thing to get in place early on. A baby will be happier and more contended during the day, if they have a good sleep pattern in place. This will also make it much more likely that they will sleep through the night.
Here is a list you can use to set the baby’s bedtime routine:
By letting your baby wind down at the end of the day, they will start to realise that this is what happens at bedtime and therefore sleep better. Bathing, then getting them dressed in a room with dim lights will install a sense of calm and relaxation. Finally, settle them in the cot with a quick story and a cuddle and then quietly leave.
You don’t need to follow the above routine to the letter, you may wish to do it in a different order, or have a different routine entirely, but the important thing is that you create a baby sleep routine that you follow night after night after night until it becomes a habit for your child.
As you work through this routine your baby will start to realise that sleep is expected at the end of it. As babies enjoy routine and are creatures of habit they will soon become very accustomed to this. Settling a baby quickly by using a routine very much increases the chances of them sleeping through the night.
Whilst getting the baby sleep routine in place early in baby’s life, you can still set a good routine for an older baby. Stick to the same things and keep the environment static and you will have the ideal scenario for a good nights sleep for all.
If you find that your baby sleep routine is not working, take a look at what you have put in place to see if it can be improved. Maybe when they sleep during the day – there is not a set in stone routine for that? Try to get a daytime sleep routine in place and see if that helps with the nights.
