Important Facts: Do Hair Straighteners Damage Hair
Broken, brittle and dry hair were just some of the side effects of the early hair straighteners. This could be the reason why in the’80s it was all about crimped hair, as this was less harmful. Straighteners didn’t come on the scene until the technology was good enough, in the’90s, and girls wouldn’t get burnt scalps after using their Mothers ironing board and iron to achieve the straight look.
Hair straightening technology was very poor to begin with and hair would have to have many minutes of treatments before it was anywhere near manageable and straight. Again, with the prolonged heat, this caused dry, brittle and damaged hair and not the desired effects of styled and shiny hair.
Nowadays, technology has moved on. Hair straighteners now possess the technology that supposedly styles hair without the heat damage, but this comes with a hefty price tag. (more…)
